What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy practice developed by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: Rei, meaning universal, and Ki, meaning life force energy.

Reiki is based on the understanding that a universal life force energy flows through all living things. When this energy is balanced and flowing freely, it supports overall health and well-being. Reiki works by channeling this energy through the hands of a trained practitioner to support the body's natural energetic balance.

During a session, the practitioner gently places their hands on the body or holds them just above it in a series of positions. Reiki can also be offered from a distance for those who prefer not to meet in person. The practice is gentle, noninvasive, and is received while fully clothed.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki works with the understanding that our thoughts, emotions, and experiences can influence the flow of our life force energy. Stress, emotional strain, and other experiences may contribute to areas of energetic imbalance or stagnation, creating what can be understood as denser energy within the body's energetic field.

During a session, Reiki energy flows to the areas where it is most needed, helping to raise the vibrational frequency of energy that has become dense or out of balance. As the energy is introduced, it is understood to elevate the vibration of the affected area, supporting the movement and release of stagnant energy and encouraging a greater sense of balance and harmony.

In some instances, the energy may shift as it is brought to a higher vibrational level, allowing what was previously held or blocked to be released. The experience is different for everyone. Some people may notice warmth, coolness, tingling, or sensations of energy moving, while others may simply experience a deep sense of relaxation or peace.

What Can I Expect During a Reiki Session?

You will be invited to go off camera and make yourself comfortable while Kristen channels the reiki to you. People often experience deep relaxation during Reiki. Some may notice warmth, tingling, or other physical sensations, while others simply feel peaceful, grounded, or rested. Every person's experience is different, and there is no particular sensation you need to feel for a session to be meaningful. It is important to follow your personal needs in the days that follow as the energy moves. Rest, hydration, and being kind to yourself are encouraged.

Reiki can be used alongside conventional medical and mental health care as a complementary wellness practice. It is not a substitute for medical or mental health treatment and is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions.

My Reiki Training & Certification

Kristen Quinones is certified in Usui/Holy Fire® III World Peace & New Earth Reiki Levels I & II.

During Reiki training, practitioners receive an energetic initiation known as an attunement or, in Holy Fire® Reiki, an ignition. This process establishes a connection between the practitioner and the Reiki energy, allowing them to serve as a channel through which it can flow.

In Holy Fire® Reiki, the ignition connects the practitioner with the Holy Fire energy, described as a high-frequency spiritual energy that can be accessed and channeled during Reiki practice. Through this connection, practitioners learn to work with Reiki energy to support balance, relaxation, and overall well-being.
